This is not the first time this has been noted but I’m not finding any help that works. I have tried the customized CSS that changes the sidebar width and that has made no difference. I’m also using a page footer which is also not showing properly in IE8 although I didn’t see any fixes for that.

In doing some research, at least 20% of internet users are still using IE8. That’s a large percentage of users that potentially come to our site. I can’t control what browser people are using. My husband’s company provides him with a computer and they have just moved from XP to 7 but are still on IE8 – they are not allowed to upgrade – his company is extremely large with employees all over the country (and the world) – that’s quite a lot of people that are forced to use IE8 even if they personally prefer something different. I’m not willing to risk all those people leaving my site for someone else’s because it’s unreadable.

Short of a notice that we don’t support 20% of internet users (which I’m not willing to do), is there anything else that can help? If there isn’t a fix for this on IE8, how do I go about getting a refund on the purchase of pro?

As stated upfront, we design valid, standards-compliant themes with HTML5/CSS3.

We even pass Internet Explorer’s modern quality checks:

Our themes are not built nor tested for out-dated web browsers.

We do understand the dilemma of some companies being stuck on archaic systems due to the costs of upgrading.

If StartupPro is not suitable for your specific project, no worries. Please just confirm and we’d be happy to issue a refund.

Looking back at the information on the theme itself, I don’t find anything that mentions that IE8 isn’t supported. Like it or not, 20% of users are still working with it – to call it out-dated and archaic when it’s only one version back is a bit shortsighted. Your basic information does mention HTML5/CSS3 but quite honestly, I have no idea what that means. I chose to use WordPress to create my website as I am not a website programmer – the use of themes, and WordPress in general, is designed for those of us who don’t know much about html or css. In doing further research HTML5 and CSS3, it’s definitely the newest stuff and isn’t supported in anything but the newest browsers (and even some of them are just getting started with it).

I understand if you choose not to design for browsers (or specific versions) you don’t want to support, but you should be letting people know that it doesn’t work for 20% of the market so they realize they are hitting only those who have updated or use different browsers. I don’t have the luxury of letting 20% of the market browse away from my site so I will be switching themes. Please let me know how I can get a refund.

I understand your concern, but we’re not going to make statements like “This theme doesn’t work on IE8.” (IE8 being the latest IE available on Win XP, a 12 year old operating system mind you) because that isn’t inherently true, some people are using it still on IE8. We have the demo and we explain what the theme is, we’re not going to comprehensively exhaust what the theme isn’t (which may be isolated and subjective anyways), as this is neither practical or reasonable.

What is reasonable is a 60-day refund policy to be honored if you find for any reason, the theme is not suitable for your project. Which is where we’re at.

However, we’re now looking at your order and see that your purchase was made back in January, which means you’re not even eligible for a refund anyways. However, we’ve made the mistake of already guaranteeing you your refund here in this support topic. Since we’re an honorable and honest company we will be making an exception for you. Refund issued.

    Thank You
