    This is probably a WordPress issue, but searching their site for help is very hit-or-miss. I’m using StartupWP free on 3.6.1. When I search for a term that I know only exists as a tag, i.e. never in the text of a post, I get no search results. I see many search plugins with very mixed reviews (discouraging). Is searching affected by the template, or do I need to hack the WP code itself?

    Yes, this is a WordPress issue.

    But, there are a few plugins to consider for enhancing search:

    http://wordpress.org/plugins/search-everything/
    http://wordpress.org/plugins/relevanssi/

    You’ll probably just want to pick one.
