Child Theming

If the theme options and plugins aren’t cutting it for you and you want to dig into the code (PHP and HTML) deeper for complete and advanced customization control, child theming is the way you want to go.

A child theme is exactly what it sounds like, it’s a sub-theme or child theme to a main or parent theme. Allowing you to make overriding edits without actually editing core parent theme files which will allow you to still upgrade the parent theme without losing your edits. Learn more.

Download your child theme and install like any normal WP theme. You’ll want to activate the child theme, not the parent theme. Then simply copy over any files from the parent theme you want to edit (header.php or footer.php for example) to the child theme and make your desired edits. You can do this either before or after installing the child theme. Either way you’ll need to manage the child theme via FTP thereafter.

Download, unzip, open it up and change the wording, translation or otherwise customize however you like, re-zip and install. Then, simply update your contact form shortcode from:

[sp-contact]

to:

[sp-contact-child]
